Powers Permissions Post - TLV

Gertrude is the former Archivist of the Ceaseless Watcher, and as such she has a bunch of infomoddy Spontaneous Knowledge Abilities. Since her powers are dependent on an eldritch extradimensional horror from her own universe, these abilities may or may not function on your character even when she has her full abilities. Said horror has no direct access to the Barge, and cannot exert active influence or see things that are present on the Barge.

I will check with you before any IC attempt to use a power she's capable of using on your character -- if you are uncomfortable with the power being used, it will fail.

Please let me know how you feel about her using her powers on your character by filling out the form below!

Gertrude's abilities are currently: PARTIALLY ACTIVE. She has access to her Seeing and Knowing abilities restored, but her Compulsion abilities remain weakened and variable.

Her full abilities are:

  • Compulsion: She can compel others to answer direct questions. This power can be resisted by people with supernatural/psychic abilities or connections to other powerful entities, but if it works, it causes the person to give a complete and truthful answer. While nerfed, this ability will be unreliable and inconsistent. It may sometimes work and sometimes utterly fail, even on characters who it otherwise works on (or for players who have okayed it.)

  • Language: She can comprehend, but not produce, any spoken or written language as though it were her own. It takes an effort for her to be aware that the other person is speaking in a language other than perfect English.

  • Seeing: She is able to perceive supernatural or hidden truths, especially regarding otherworldly influence on a person. For example, she may be able to detect "true forms," notice influence from other beings, etcetera. This ability is completely nonfunctional when her powers are nerfed, and even when fully functional is not reliable or responsive to her control. When fully powered, the best she can do is occasionally noticing small hidden things, and it is easy to hide things from her supernatural perception.

  • Knowing: She is able to access information that she has no reasonable way of knowing by focusing on it. For example, she might know where someone is headed, or be aware of facts about a person that they have not told her. This ability is completely nonfunctional when her powers are nerfed, and even when fully functional is not reliable or responsive to her control. When fully powered, she can sometimes use it, but because of its unreliability she never depends on it.

  • Taking Statements: When someone chooses to tell her about a supernatural experience that they have had, they will find that they are able to clearly, eloquently and accurately describe the experience. They may feel as though they are reliving it as they describe it. After finishing, they may find that they experience a sensation of being watched and are likely to have nightmares about the experience. Gertrude will also experience similar nightmares in which she is watching the person relive the experience. When she has her full powers, she is capable of compelling someone to give a statement. When she is nerfed, she is incapable of compelling statements, but the other effects will apply for any statement that a character voluntarily chooses to give her.
